No Nails Glue vs. Screws

For the construction of the pillars I need to figure out what would be the best way to piece them together. Here (below) I have tested out no nails glue. I found that this works really well and is not noticeable, but, I have found that because the boards of which I am drawing on have warped slightly (some more than others), I have to weigh it down quite a bit, and on top of that it takes around a full 24 hours for the glue to fully cure meaning that I would only be able to glue down one post a day. If my math is math-ing correctly, this would then mean that I would only be able to construct 1 pillar to completion every 4-5 days.

Thinking about alternative ways of constructing the pillars, I have thought about using screws. I feel like this would be more structurally sound as well as easier and faster to do. The only thing I would have to keep in mind is that the screws may be visible unless I inset them, which is very much easy to do, but before I make any decision on that, I will test out the construction using screws, keeping them visible so that I can see how it looks and if the screws may alter the visual experience of the work.
