Following my painting plan (https://www.laurensimons.art/post/painting-plan) I set about projecting the images onto the working surface so that I can manipulate their positioning in real time.


The working surface is square, instead of the rectangular pages the original drawings were on. I made the decision to work on a square canvas so that I could disrupt the proportions of the original drawings by condensing the facial features together. This also allows me to play with the scale of said features.



Talking to another resident artist at the Historic Village, they mentioned an artist that goes by @hey4ro on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/hey4ro/). They recommended I look at his work and how he utilises transparent layering in his paintings to create portraits with translucent skin.
